Scary!

Now I'm glad I moved to the "country". At least, that's what I call it here. But imagine my tree-huggin' surprise when the neighbor called animal control because she thought the gator in our lake was eating her cats. So out they come yesterday to trap it. And trap it they did. Kinda felt sorry for the poor guy. We've watched him and his cohorts happily in our lake for the two years we've lived here. We didn't bother them. They didn't bother us. One new cat-happy out of towner and blammo. No more gator. Now we
love our kitties as much as the next guy and one of our cats recently went missing as well. But we still don't think it was the gator. And neither did the trapper. The neighbor wasn't too happy that she had just caused the death of a gator who was not guilty. But once they're here too late I guess. He makes his living this way.

While watching the gator thrash on the line early this morning, Sloan sadly put her head down and quietly said, "Well, we have dominion over the animals I guess."
Ugh.
Truth is sometimes just too weighty.
I'm glad they were all gone when I snapped these photos.
Hey, don't blame me, this is YOUR town!

Well even as sad as it is I would be a little grateful that you don't have to worry about losing any little ones to that gator. The year I had Maddy a toddler was wading in the shoreline, unattended mind you, while the mom was helping her other child and all she saw was a ripple in the water and her baby was gone. It was found in the nest later that day, dead. So I have no love for the gators, even though it is in their nature to be predatory. And believe me my kids do not go to the lake or swim where I cannot see the bottom..

Wow. I cannot tell you how much better that makes me feel! I'm afraid we may have become a little complacent because we have NEVER seen them on shore....BUT! You never know and the thought of Kate down there...turning our heads for a moment....we have a lot of brush in one spot lakeside where we have heard the unmistakable croaking. So...while we DID infringe...it is still not worth the risk...one down, four to go? They migrate from lake to lake so while I know we have five, there is never any telling when or how many will be around. Thanks for making me feel better even though I didn't do it!!!

That is SO crazy! I can't imagine knowing that thing came from my back yard! I am a little freakish when it comes to sea creatures of any kind!
