So I also LOVE LOVED LOVED the discussion on Philippians 2:12 when Paul says "conitnue to work out your salvation..."
Pastor D (ok, I just CANNOT call him PDiddy anymore, lol) spoke about how if someone is working for us, shouldn't we also work alongside?
Jeff and I were talking about it more this morning, a little simplistic but accurate enough.
If someone came over to help you rake leaves in your yard, would you sit back on the porch and watch? NO!!!!!! You'd pick up a rake!
So we talked about how working out your salvation really can be thought of as a working out (a stepping out, a living out) of God's plan.
At first I wasn't sure about the us being the co-pilot and the CO-operating idea...I first heard it as we were CO-managers or co-directors and that of course is not true. But it all it came into it's fullness when he turned the CO-operating into cooperating.
One defintion of cooperating from the American Heritage Dictionary is:
To acquiesce willingly; be compliant: asked the child to cooperate and go to bed.
Uh, yes is the answer to this defintion when referencing one "cooperating with the Lord". It really means to be compliant to His will. To listen, obey and DO IT!!!
The co-pilot listens to the pilot and does what he says! Right!
Case in point: I listened to the Holy Spirit admonish me on how I addressed the children (see 2 posts ago) and then PUT INTO ACTION what needed to be done. So I "worked out" God's plan for my life by listening and obeying.
By working out our salvation, we are actually IMPROVING our lives and the lives of those of us around us..
