Tithe your day....
Remember my old saying, "Bless your Home First"? The idea that a picked up home allows for a smoother day to school, not to school, play hooky or whatever? Well, that still goes but really there is something that comes before it. Something that comes before everything. I bet you can guess it too.
Daily time with the Lord! The first fruit of your day belongs to someone else ladies. Lots of people claim no time or that they're not morning people but if you don't do it FIRST it most likely won't get done or at least won't get done regularly.
I can tell a hundred stories of days that went bad and the only common denominator was that I had skipped my personal bible time. How can we expect, hope or even pray that the day go well if we are not spending time with the creator and giver of our day, our children our very breath? He longs for us to get to know Him! Do you know Him? I mean, REALLY know Him?
If it begins with 5 minutes a day, I would urge you to tithe it to Him. Surrender your day, energy, schedule, work, school, kids, patience! to Him. Tell Him it's all His to do with what He will. I can promise you will see a difference in your day, your attitude and your kids.
Do whatever you have to in order to get this done consistently and THAT is how you exact change in your lives.
I hope it is ok to use my friend M as an example... She is my friend and if I may speak for her, we really like each other. We want to know each other better. We see things in each other that calls us to spend time together. Can we get to know each other better if we don't spend that time? Of course not! And the more time we spend, the more time we long for. It makes me miss her just typing about her! And that is how you get to know one another. Spending time. So we sacrifice some things in order to spend that time and it is worth it to us. So how can we possibly get to know our very Lord and Savior, our friend, if we do not sacrifice and spend any time with Him?
He is in the details of our lives and can you imagine this...He loves us and we as Christians are taught how much he loves us but we don't spend any time with Him! Imagine never spending ANY time with our kids? Unimaginable. But many of us do that with our very best friend in the world.
You can get to know His love for us by spending daily, set apart time with Him in the Word and in Prayer. Not in the car or shower (which is fine to do but is NOT a real tithe) but set aside time as a sacrifice. Your day will go smoother and you will begin to feel the peace you long for. You know that peace they are always talking about? It's real and it's there for the taking or better said, for the receiving. His hand is out with many gifts for us if we will approach in Worship, awe and exaltation! Not to SEEK His hand but His very face...
This is a hard one to convey as I believe you can only know when you actually do it. Talk about the enemy. Once you start this you will see every obstacle in your way. Kids who wouldn't wake up if you dropped a bomb on their bed will suddenly bound out of bed the minute you dust off your Bible and pour your first cup of Joe. But consistency will set this loathsome enemy back where he belongs so stick with it and you will soon find this time protected!
Tithe your day and He will bless the rest of it! Take your concerns to Him and He will manage them. Give Him what little you have and He will multiply it! Surrender your will and He will pick up the weight of our calling...

I can speak from experience that this is sooooo true! This time is also important to God and if you ask Him to help you wake up He will! I was trying to sleep late one morning, I think I had turned the alarm clock off and I was awakened by a physical "shove" to my shoulder--I startled awake and looked at Ollie assuming he did it and he was sound asleep. It was really weird but amazing. I also regularly wake up at exactly the time I wanted to even without the alarm. Thank you for the reminder as a new week starts for me tomorrow!
I agree heartily that this is so important. Not only is it important for our walk and relationship with the Lord but modeling this concept for children. My house has a bunch of early risers and we each have our own area to have our time with the Lord. When someone has missed their morning time with Him, the kids are the first to notice. They will say, "You must not have had your time to sit and talk with the Lord this morning!"
