Chapel Chat

Yesterday I received the most amazing email from a woman. It was a bit harsh and after my initial flesh reactions of anger and defensiveness, grace kicked in. I responded in LOVE and received love back in the form of a powerful ally. Leave it to God to affirm these actions by Thursday church. Doug talks of being careful of our approach with people. Read their heart. Drop the right bait..speak in love and let the spirit flow. Well, enjoy these exchanges and know that God is at work in His magazine!

Email from woman:

I read this in your magazine today. I have a question.
Why you did not take the time to ask that question to a
Black Child? Is this your way of telling our Children that
a Black Man can not be President? Is this a magazine for
White Families only ?

My Response:

Dear Mrs. ...,

Thank you for your candid and honest question! Unfortunately, my husband and I
are the only ones running this show so for any and all of our call outs we
simply send out the question through email. We send out to libraries, any school
contacts we have and homeschooling groups. Whoever responds is who ends up in
the magazine. We did not have a single black child respond! I can see your
point! We actually have long wanted a child of color to put on our COVER and I
have approached many black families when I am out and about. But no one has ever
once responded. The photo shoot is free and is held at a local park twice a
month! Perhaps you can help us with this??

In regards to your comments: "Is this your way of telling our Children that a
Black Man can not be President (and) Is this a magazine for White Families only?

I am going to chalk those comments up to someone who is passionate about their
beliefs. I am sure a mature woman such as yourself would not normally accuse a
perfect stranger of being racist right off the bat without ever having met
her? Instead, I urge you to partner with me in bringing more black families to
the cover and inside the pages of Lake Family Magazine.

Somehow you have my personal email address so I assume you may have some great
connections with schools or county agencies.
What do you say? Let's both be part of the solution instead of perpetuating the
problem.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Blessings to you and your family,

Victory! Her response:

You sound like a lady I could get to know and like. I will not call you
anything
but one of God's Children, my sister in Christ. I was not upset just wanted to
share
what I was thinking and some others would too. I Believe you have looked for
families
for you cover when you tell me this. I would tell some family you are looking.
Please
don't take what I asked for mean. I am the Family/School Liaison at (local elementary school) Thank you for answering

Our conversation is continuing now as we partner in the black community...

Your approach is everything. I bet you had a similar initial reaction as I did...but someone was hurt by something I did INADVERTANTLY...I am glad that I was able to fix it. Glory To God!!!!!
Thank you Jesus! Perfect Love!

Good one.
Glad it's being worked on with a loving spirit on both of your parts. And good for you for not reacting in any other way than a Christian way.
