A Checklist for Parents: LOVE

This morning I was reading this "Checklist for Parents" that I found encouraging after a few days of difficulty with my patience.I thought it was the KIDS that were getting to me, but our fellowship group drew out the truth...it was ME that needed changing. (Plus I learned a couple of grammar rules as well! Thanks Heather!) Enjoy! I'll be posting a few of these per day...I take them as encouragement instead of admonishment. I remember one time someone said" "I do not need one more book telling me what I am or am not doing right" but here, I find that instruction in the Lord is a good and right thing.

Have I spoken words of love and blessing to my child today? (Examples: "I love you." "I'm glad I'm your Dad/Mom." "You're such a good helper; you're going to make a great wife one day.")
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." Proverbs 3:27, ESV

it is so true... it's funny how it's more "natural" for me to fuss at them than encourage them.

So true Chewhi
I wish I had read this a few minutes ago, as I was in the midst of saying some not so nice things. This is good stuff to hear. Looking forward to seeing more.

There are many things I admire about my mom. At the same time there are things didn't admire about her. I vowed that I would be like my mom, but different.

My mom was not big on encouragement or showing her love for us. She would praise us in front of others, but when we were at home, we heard none of it.

My Knight and I are big into encouraging, edifying and loving. The world is full of people ready to pounce on you. None of that should be heard in our homes.

Great post!

I am really working on this. I am often too quick to be critical. Thanks for sharing.
