Sloan was heating up some choc. fudge for her icecream tonight in the microwave.
When she went to take it out it was too hot and she FLUNG it out of reflex. (and screamed)
She burned her hand and some flung on Rach and thank GOD that the baby wasn't there.
Hot sugar: surely the work of the enemy.
So as she was RUBBING her burn for relief with the cold wet towel I had on it and I instructed her to STOP it and told her a few times to stop...with tears streaming down her face, she told me it relieved it.
Jeff explained that it relieved it for a minute but there was tissue damage already and rubbing it would really only make it worse.
I was frustrated that she wouldn't quit it and was getting exasperated.
STOP RUBBING IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh.
Did I show loving compassion, comfort, and support, remembering my child's young and foolish heart, or did I unduly correct him and expect more of him than he could perform?
"As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust."
Psalm 103:13-14, ESV

I'm loving these! I like how you include an example along with it. Thanks for your openness.
I hope she's okay...these are good, I might have to copy them down so I don't forget them.
Oh, that last comment I left was from last night... I keep checking your blog to make sure I am not missing any of this tips. You know, it's a good way to start the day, sort of like a companion to bible reading and my morning prayer. I love a reminder. Makes me think before I launch into any foolishness with the kids and believe me, I do that ALOT.
ACK! I totally yelled at Mimi for trying to get out of the car on the wrong side when we got gas. You can't open the van door when the gas door is open-the car won't let you. But SHE didn't know that...she's never gotten out of the car when I was pumping gas before...
Totally convicted of this one :-).
