Vitamin C and a little something extra...

I live in FLORIDA people. I mean the orange juice capital of the WORLD, right? But I cannot get a decent orange to save my life. Plus the little cruddy ones I get are ridiculously expensive as well. So, true to my amazing town, I take up this little crudely hand painted sign's offer of "Juice Oranges, 3 dollars 1/2 bushel. I pull into this guy's driveway and there stands a 90 year old man if he's a day. Friendly old coot with a back yard full of orange trees. Someone is there in a Mercedes talking to him. They are in no rush on my account. He's obviously a return customer. He tells the old man he'll check back in next week for some more. He leaves and the old man turns his attention to me.
He has to go PICK the oranges for me and I feel terribly guilty about that. But this is his job, his livelihood. He also has navel oranges as well. So I tell him I'll be back. When I return, another customer is just leaving and he has two HUGE brown paper sacks waiting for me. One filled with juicing oranges, the other with navels. 3 bucks for the juicers, 5 for the navels.
His trees are sparse and he thinks he'll have to go out of business. He is convinced that the trees have caught some citrus disease and that is why the trees aren't producing as well. He shows me the difference between a healthy tree and a straggly one. He has not had the trees checked nor the soil. And apparently can't be bothered with such technology. He poo poos my idea of soil checking with a "It's not the soil" remark. I imagine he may know better than I do.
I can't help but feel sorry for him. And sorry that I never pulled in before today, though I am quite certain he does not feel sorry for himself and would not appreciate my pity either.
"This your first time here? " he asks. "I haven't seen you before."
I imagine he knows each of his customers.
He tells me he normally has oranges through February but doesn't think he'll have oranges much past next week this year. I tell him I'll check in next week too...though I have more oranges than I know what to do with. He tells me to pull up further next time and that if his garage door is open then he is too. I know I will not be able to resist this man.
Lauren juiced an entire 2 quart pitcher by hand...for breakfast later this morning... these oranges are fantastic and I will not sip it without thinking of him.
I like this old Eustis man and know that he and his oranges won't be around for much longer. I'd hug him if I thought he'd like it. But for now, I'll just check in with him again, let him pick his oranges and talk about the weather...time is all we have.

Gotta love this town

Downtown Mount Dora Christmas walk? Beautiful!!!

My life is not my own...

Well, I imagine the posting will be a little quieter these next few weeks as we all prepare and bustle around for the holidays. I have processed through a VERY emotional thing these past few days... it took me a few days to really figure it out and then process it but whew, I think I did.

Living here in this beautiful town and around the women whom I have come to love like family, has been transforming to say the least. But recently I have come to the difficult reality that I cannot regain time that I have lost due to wrong upbringing. I cannot "take up" every thing that I expose the kids to. I do not have the skill set I could have had in the home but my daughters have the opportunity to and need to have every advantage thereof.

Sewing is an excellent example. I am not a seamstress nor am I a quilter. I do not have the time to learn to do this right now if I want my children to learn the skill set. It takes a tremendous amount of time, money and effort to become accomplished at anything that you cannot teach yourself and my own interests are taking up too much of it. I think it good and right to have your own interests. To be sure! But---not at the expense of what the kids should be getting. If I had not done the quilt, Sloan's would be finished. If Sloan had not done hers, mine would. So whose should give? Mine, of course. It is my responsibility and HONOR to sacrifice my own unrealized skill sets for now, so that I can properly facilitate the building of theirs.

Please note that I am saying "for now"...when there is time, I can do all I want to do but for now I have no "extra" time for goodness sake. My calling is to teach them. My kids are spaced apart further than most and it is a tremendous undertaking to school them properly. I need consistency in this and am going to put a call out to the group for an accountability partner.

Perhaps if I was more satisfied with how school was going I would feel freer to do some other things, but really, what I need to be doing is building THEIR skill sets, not my own. My mother had that responsibility and squandered it and I must not squander my own daughter's by trying to regain my own lost opportunities.

I must take up the honorable cross of self sacrifice (NOT martyrdom either) and let my daughters SOAR on behalf of all women who are pioneers in their own families by being the first to raise their daughters to be keepers at home.

So you fine ladies help me get this quilt done (please, lol) and then I shall pass the baton on to my own darling ladies. I feel relieved too. I have much to learn in order to teach my girls well. I have to relearn a lot still and have to keep studying in order to keep teaching. I need to spend all my extra time in the Word! Growing and gleaning and passing on gems of LIFE to my girls and leave the passing on of the gems of homemaking skills to those who are able.

I also simply cannot forego spending time with other ladies whom I need in order to press on. Fellowship is VITAL. Especially for me or I tend to super isolate. So there are lots of opportunities for me to do things that are profitable and for me without it taking MONTHS to accomplish!

That's it for now....

Marie Curie Quote

I like today's quote of the day, "Be less curious about people and more curious about ideas" Marie Curie

or better said, if I may be so bold,

"Be less nosy about what people are doing or saying and more curious about what Jesus is!"

Sunday's Doin's

There is peace in my home.
It's a momentary peace as the "beautiful one" could wake from her restful slumber at any given moment in time screaming, "MOMMMYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
But for now, peace reigns.
Jeff took the kids out to get the tree. Now I could post all day long about that...but why? Suffice to say you may all see us again sometime next week if we can get out from under.

Church was wonderful again this week though I sat out in the lobby with Kate. Lisa and I had a good laugh when I tried to put Kate in the nursery...I told her I'd have some 'splainin to do on my blog tonight...but Kate only lasted a full 30 seconds before teary-eyed me held it together long enough to scoop her up and RUN. We did fine in the lobby. Let's go to the Lobby, Let's go to the Lobby, Let's go to the Lobby and get ourselves a SNACK! ( you youngin's don't remember that one but that's what they played at INTERMISSION during drive-in movies back in the dark ages)

I do think I will continue to try a little with her...not because we are suddenly COMPROMISING OUR BELIEFS and going to smack them all in youth programs from here to eternity but because a two hour playtime with friends and toys can't be all bad...can it?
We surely don't want to be split up for another 1.5 years from attending together as a family by one of us having to sit out with Kate....sigh...we'll see how it goes.

You know you love church when Sloan reminded me that this Thursday was Agape feast and I was like, awwww, shoot. What? She asked. I was looking forward to regular church! But even after church today as I talked to this one and that, I realized man, I am COMFORTABLE here. I can be of some USE here. I LIKE IT here. So we will go the Agape Feast and get to know people some more. Plenty of sermons to be had. Man, that must feel pretty good as a pastor; to know your sermons are in DEMAND. Lol

I only heard bits and pieces of the sermon from the lobby as I chased Kate around and no one out there really LISTENS much, lol but I liked what PDiddy (don't know WHERE that came from but I imagine it will stick, I think I started with Pastor D, moved to PD and then kept on a goin'...lol) anyway, I liked what he said about how we should think of everyone around us as if they were in a higher station than ourselves. Already convicted me as I was interested in meeting certain people but was approached by a whole different set...guess what? (duh) THey were wonderful and it was obvious that we were supposed to meet for various reasons... And so I know that each day I am there, I will meet who I am supposed to meet.

I have my heart on the front desk girl who has an amazing ability to NOT be moved by anything. She stares at the computer from start to finish completely ambivalent if not slightly irritated it seems, over what's happening. I always greet her and say goodbye and think others must be doing that too...we should all start praying for her!

HSC, our entire family was enraptured by your beauty today. If those eyes were any bluer, we have to all take a dip in them. Amazing!

So, us reformers join up with the CCOT-ellies and will live in UNITY!

Surprised us all, me thinks.

Welcome Back

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things after a draining, emotional and difficult week. I've had some blog problems, some church problems, some family problems. All I want to do is get back into the swing of things.

Maybe I should make some scones. Lol

I need some quiet time. Life is getting busier and busier but there are fun times ahead. We're pullin' up to our third Christmas here in Eustis and I hope it will make for a good catalyst into a better year.

New church. Improved Real Estate market? And a whole lotta New Year's Resolutions. Lol

I'm SUCH a great starter...Lol

Welcome back to my blog ya'll.
